Performing Arts Center announces fifth-season lineup
By Bobby Tyler
btyler@uga.edu

The Performing Arts Center’s fifth-anniversary season will include 32 performances in seven series: Music Series I and II, Showtime, Dance Festival, Traditions, the Ramsey Concert Hall Series and the Franklin College Chamber Music Series.
“The musical theme of this season is one of looking forward to new artists and performances while enjoying return visits from some past favorites,” says Timothy A. Bartholow, director of the Office of Performing Arts. “Among those returning are Georgia’s own Atlanta Symphony Orchestra as well as the Atlanta Ballet, guitarist Christopher Parkening (in partnership with baritone Jubilant Sykes), pianists Philippe Entremont and Adam Neiman, and Scottish fiddler Bonnie Rideout.”
The special event of the season will be the Athens debut of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra’s new music director, Robert Spano. Maestro Spano is scheduled to appear in Hodgson Hall on Sept. 24 and tickets for this event are on sale first to subscribers to the 2000-2001 season.
The Performing Arts Center’s 1999-2000 season was one of continued success. For the second year, concerts were broadcast on National Public Radio’s Performance Today, heard by 1.5 million listeners across the country. With the support of the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, the Performing Arts Center expanded its educational programs, offering master classes and lecture-demonstrations to students throughout the state.
Subscriptions for the 2000-2001 season are on sale now. Single tickets for individual performances go on sale to the general public beginning Aug. 21 (season subscribers can purchase single tickets for individual performances beginning Aug. 7).
