UGAs College of Education, Terry College of Business and School of Law are listed among the nations top graduate schools in the latest rankings from U.S. News and World Report. The new rankings appear in the 2001 edition of the magazines Best Graduate Schools guidebook, now available on newsstands.
The College of Education ranks 26th among 187 graduate programs and is the only school in the state of Georgia to appear on the list.

Young and the young
Tapping into an exciting abundance of younger African-American writers, UGA poet and assistant professor of English and African-American Studies Kevin Young has edited a new anthology called Giant Steps, which has just been released by publisher HarperCollins.
The book showcases the poetry and prose of 26 writers who are 40 or younger, including such noted authors as Edwidge Danticat, Colson Whitehead and Randall Kenan.

Meeting of the minds
This years Sam Nunn Forum, held March 27 at the university, focused on U.S. policy concerning international trade in technology.
The forum was organized by UGAs Center for International Trade and Security, and Columns spoke with Gary Bertsch, the centers director, about the results.

UGA will recognize top teachers, student scholars at Honors Day
The University of Georgia will recognize its top student scholars--including a record-high 49 First Honor Graduates--at the annual Honors Day program April 12.
Outstanding classroom teachers will also be recognized at the 2 p.m. program on the North Campus quadrangle in front of the law school. Peter Shedd, associate vice president for instruction, will be the Honors Day speaker.
Warren Perkins is named universitys first Georgia Power Professor of Textile Sciences
Warren Perkins, professor of textile sciences in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, has been named to the first Georgia Power Company Professorship in Textile Sciences.
Three finalists announced for senior vice presidential position
Three finalists have been chosen for the position of senior vice president for finance and administration at the University of Georgia. The finalists are:
John L. Finan, vice president for business and finance and chief financial officer at the University of South Carolina;
Henry M. Huckaby, director of UGAs Carl Vinson Institute of Government; and
Katherine M. Johnston, associate vice president and chief financial officer for health sciences at the University of Minnesota.

UGA Ballet Ensemble presents rarely seen classic work
Set and costume design by Canadian designer Evan K. Ayotte and featured guest performer Bobby G. Ball will highlight the UGA Ballet Ensembles full-length production of La Bayadère. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. on April 13-15 with a matinee on April 16 at 2 p.m. in the dance theater in the dance building.
