New virus-protection software
www.uga.edu/sitesoft/
University Computing and Networking Services has entered a site-license agreement with F-Secure Corporation to distribute the F-Secure anti-virus software to faculty, staff and students at UGA. The software may be used on UGA desktop systems as well as home systems and is available for DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 9x, Windows NT, Novell NetWare, OS/2, Macintosh and Linux platforms. The software can be downloaded from the UGA Sitesoft page.
The F-Secure software detects and eliminates a new Internet worm called Firkin which repeatedly places phone calls to 911 emergency numbers. The worm may also damage the unsuspecting host machine.
