Wind Symphony performs
The UGA Wind Symphony will premiere two new works commissioned by the Department of University Bands during a concert April 25 at 8 p.m. in Hodgson Hall. The concert is offered in conjunction with this year’s recording sessions for the ensemble’s newest CD recording.
The Wind Symphony serves the most accomplished wind and percussion instrumentalists at the university and placement in the ensemble is by audition. Dwight Satterwhite and John Culvahouse are the conductors.
The program for this concert will include Aldo Forte’s “Symphony for the Millennium” and Roger Cichy’s new symphony, “First Flights.” Both composers will be in attendance at the performance. In addition, the Wind Symphony will perform David Gillingham’s “New Century Dawn” (1999), Percy Grainger’s “Lincolnshire Posy” (1940) and a new Grantham composition, “J’été ai bal” (1999), written for the University of Texas.
