Facilities-planning administrator named interim budget director
Ryan Nesbit, associate director of the office of university architects for facilities planning, has been named interim associate vice president for finance and administration and budget director at the university effective Aug. 1, according to an announcement by Senior Vice President for Finance and Administration Henry M. Huckaby.
Nesbit succeeds Tim Burgess, who left last month to become chief financial officer for the newly created Georgia Technology Authority, and will hold the position pending a search for a permanent successor. Huckaby said the search will begin probably early in 2001 and that Nesbit may be a candidate for the permanent appointment.
“Ryan brings a combination of extensive experience at the university and strong credentials in accounting and strategic management,” Huckaby said. “He will bring effective administration to this important area, and we look forward to working with him.”
In his current position since 1994, Nesbit has been responsible for detailed implementation of the campus physical master plan through his coordination and production of the university’s annual capital improvements plan. His primary responsibilities have included development of capital project proposals, including financial feasibility studies, identification of potential funding sources, and evaluation of program alternatives. He has supervised construction project management and contract administration for more than $265 million in new facility construction and major renovations.
Nesbit took leave from the university in 1995 and 1996 to serve as Sanford Stadium venue operations manager for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games. He previously worked for Noramco, Inc., of Athens and a Charleston, S.C., manufacturing firm.
He is a 1989 magna cum laude graduate of the Citadel with a bachelor of science degree in business administration and accounting. At the Citadel he was a Rhodes Scholar finalist and varsity basketball player. He earned his M.B.A. from UGA in 1991, authoring the top business plan in the Georgia Bowl Award competition. The plan finished second in the International Business Plan competition.
