The ‘bottom line’ of business reporting
Business journalists bear the responsibility of dealing with information that has the power to move markets, money and lives.
Bottom Line Writing: Reporting the Sense of Dollars introduces students and young professionals to careers in business news writing.
The book was written by UGA’s Conrad Fink, the William S. Morris Professor of Newspaper Strategy and Management and director of the James M. Cox Jr. Institute for Newspaper Management Studies.
In Bottom Line Writing, Fink demystifies economic, business and financial news reporting and writing. Chapters provide guidance for developing basic reporting and writing skills into business writing that is accurate, fair, responsible, engaging and readable. The book also includes information on successfully presenting facts, figures and the complexities of economics, business and finance in terms readers can understand.
Bottom Line Writing also contains advice on finding and interviewing sources, reporting authoritative details effectively and emphasizing the human element in business news. Fink also discusses the law, ethics and social responsibility in business reporting.
