Employees who are veterans
In response to U.S. Department of Labor reporting requirements, the UGA Equal Opportunity Office is conducting a survey of UGA employees who are veterans of U.S. military service. The purpose of the survey is to determine the extent to which veterans are a part of the workforce of government contractors such as the university.
The survey form is available on the Web at www.uga.edu/eoo. Copies have also been distributed to deans and vice presidents. Veterans are requested to complete the form and return it to the Equal Opportunity Office, 3 Peabody Hall, by Sept. 8.
Participation in the survey is voluntary. Neither participation nor nonparticipation will affect employee status or veterans’ benefits. For more information, call Len Davis at 542-7912.

Torrance Challenge programs
Children can explore and develop their creative potential in a series of Challenge programs planned by UGA’s Torrance Center for Creative Studies on four Saturdays this fall.
There are two choices: Challenge Explosions (single Saturday classes) or Saturday Discoveries (one topic explored all four Saturdays). The topics range from science to art to drama.
Children will learn about science, music and art in such Challenge Explosion topics as: “Sunken Ships and Treasure,” “Cool Magic Tricks with Light,” “Knights in Shining Armor” and “The Magic of Music and Sound.” There are also art classes where children will learn the basics of drawing animals and impressionistic painting.
Saturday Discoveries allows children to study one theme for all four Saturdays. The two themes of these Saturday Discoveries are “Tricks of the Trade” (drama camp) and “Bizarre Encounters.”
Classes meet on the four Saturdays that do not have a home football game scheduled: Sept. 30, Oct. 21 and 28 and Nov. 11, 9 a.m.-noon, at Aderhold Hall.
The cost for each Saturday Explosion is $25. The cost for the four Saturday Discoveries is $95. Student application deadline is Sept. 15.
