Dawn D. Bennett-Alexander, associate professor of legal studies, has received a Fulbright fellowship to teach law in Ghana and to conduct research on race and gender issues in employment for 2000-2001. She also received the Most Influential Faculty Award from Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority.Thomas Cooney, retired professor of mathematics teacher education, was one of five alumni honored by the Education Alumni Association at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Cooney, who received his Ph.D. in secondary education from Illinois in 1969, was recognized for his contributions as an educator. Former professor of English James Kilgo won the Townsend Prize for his novel Daughter of My People. Named for the late Atlanta magazine founder Jim Townsend, the $1,000 literary prize is administered by the Chattahoochee Review and Georgia Perimeter College. Karl W. Kuhnert, associate professor of psychology and Senior J.W. Fanning Leadership Fellow, received a Hammer Award from U.S. Vice President Al Gore and the National Partnership for Reinventing Government for his contribution to building a government that works better and costs less. Charles Lance, associate professor of psychology, was one of seven researchers to win national honors at the annual conference of the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology. The seven researchers also were named Fellows of the society. ![]() Scott Henderson Sikes, interim executive director of the office of development, has been elected president of the Georgia Planned Giving Council for the year 2000 by the 200-member state-wide group of accountants, attorneys, bank trust officers, development officers from the major charitable organizations in the state, financial planners, life insurance agents, and stockbrokers. He represents the state of Georgia in the National Committee on Planned Giving, headquartered in Indianapolis. Kudos recognizes special contributions staff, faculty and administrators are making in teaching, research and service. News items are limited to election in national and international societies; election into offices of state, regional, national and international societies; major awards and prizes; and similarly notable accomplishments. |
