2nd Thursday Concert Series for the 2000-2001 season. Once again the series will showcase a variety of student and faculty performances.
Mark Cedel and the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra will perform music by Mozart, Prokofiev and Holst on Sept. 14. Pianist Evgeny Rivkin and violinist Levon Ambartsumian will both appear in solo recitals, Rivkin on Oct. 12 and Ambartsumian on Jan. 11. The Arco Chamber Orchestra will return to Hodgson Hall on Nov. 9 for an all-Bach program. During the holiday season, 2nd Thursday will present a School of Music Christmas, with two performance dates from which to choose--Dec. 5 and 7. On Feb. 8, the UGA woodwind faculty, along with a few percussionist and pianist friends, will perform a variety of chamber works. The season closes on April 5 with a performance of Arthur Honeggers King David, with UGA choruses and instrumentalists under the direction of Allen Crowell, Heyward Professor of Choral Music.
The subscription cost for this series is $12--an attractively low price designed to encourage additional contributions. Any contribution above the $12 per subscription total is tax-deductible and is designated for the UGA Foundation Music Scholarship Fund. Proceeds from contributions to these concerts are the primary means through which School of Music scholarship funds are raised each year.
Tickets, now available for individual 2nd Thursday performances, are $9 per concert. Tickets and season subscriptions are available at the Performing Arts Center box office on East Campus. Box office hours are 9 a.m.to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and two hours before events. The phone number is 542-4400.
