Undergrad research projects
The Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities will hold its annual symposium Feb. 26-28 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The CURO Symposium showcases undergraduate research and creative works across all disciplines. Although CURO is sponsored by the Honors Program, participation is not limited to Honors students.
Abstracts for poster and oral sessions are due to the CURO office by Dec. 20. Undergraduate researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts with an accompanying letter of support from the sponsoring faculty. The “Call for Abstracts” and the “Application to Participate” are available on the Web (www.uga.edu/honors/curo).

MBA student volunteers
The Non-Profit Management and Community Service Program in the Terry College of Business can provide volunteers for non-profit organizations in the area. The “Volunteer Dawgs” are M.B.A. students who provide help with their time, hands and hearts. They can also assist organizations with business plan creation, marketing and finance issues. For more information, call Niki Schrock at 542-3750.

Master Gardener classes
Applications are now available for the 20-session Master Gardener Program for 2001, scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday evenings Jan. 9-March 22 from 6:15 to 8:30 p.m. at the State Botanical Garden. Cost is $100. Certified Master Gardeners may attend individual sessions for $5 per session.
The program provides gardeners with intensive training in horticultural principles and practices and in pest management. Topics range from soils and nutrition to vegetable gardening and landscaping.
Space is limited and students are selected through an application process. Application deadline is Nov. 17.
Participants must pass a final exam and agree to return 50 hours of volunteer service to their respective communities before the end of 2001. Service may consist of answering questions in an extension office, helping conduct gardening clinics, working on community beautification projects or assisting with projects at the State Botanical Garden.
The Master Gardener Program is administered by the UGA Cooperative Extension Service and sponsored in Athens by the botanical garden.
