The University of Georgia is ranked among the nation’s top public colleges in terms of getting the most “bang for the buck” according to Kiplinger’s magazine’s annual ranking, released in the publication’s October issue. UGA ranks 15th, higher than any other school in the state of Georgia, on this year’s list of the top 100 best values in public colleges and universities.
“We are encouraged by the fact that the University of Georgia is consistently regarded as one of the nation’s top 20 public institutions,” says President Michael F. Adams. “The recognition we continue to receive is a strong indicator that UGA offers a first-class academic experience at an exceptional value.”
Kiplinger’s used a variety of quality and cost measures to rank schools. These measures included total costs of attending the institution, average amount of student debt at graduation, in-state tuition, graduation and retention rates and average standardized-test scores.
A number of schools in the Southeast appear on the list. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was ranked first, followed by the University of Virginia, the College of William and Mary and the New College of the University of South Florida. The only other SEC school in the top 20 was the University of Florida, which ranked 12th on the list.
No other SEC school was ranked in the top 35 of Kiplinger’s list. The University of Kentucky ranked 39th on the list, the University of Mississippi ranked 42nd, the University of Tennessee-Knoxville ranked 52nd, and the University of South Carolina ranked 53rd.
