| Diversity increases among presidents More women and minorities are filling presidential positions at U.S. colleges according to a new study by the American Council on Education. The number of female college presidents doubled from 1986 to 1998, while the total number of African-American, Hispanic, Asian-American and Native American presidents increased by 40 percent. Women comprised 19.3 percent of presidents, while minorities made up 11.3 percent. The majority of college presidents are still white males. This information was gathered from a survey of 2,380 presidents during 1998-99.
