Undergraduate research abstracts
The Undergraduate Research Symposium sponsored by the Center for Undergraduate Research Opportunities will take place Feb. 26-28, 2001, in the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The symposium provides a forum for undergraduates to present original research sponsored by faculty members. Undergraduate students from all disciplines are encouraged to participate.
Presentations may be in the form of a paper, oral presentation, poster session, exhibition, performance or art work. Undergraduate researchers are encouraged to submit abstracts describing where they are in the research process and the issues they face.
Those who wish to present their work should submit an application, an abstract (500 words or less) and a brief supporting letter from the sponsoring faculty member no later than Dec. 20. The application is available on the Web at www.uga.edu/honors/curo/symposium/2001application.html. All proposal abstracts will receive student peer review with faculty guidance. Although CURO is part of the Honors Program, participation is not limited to Honors students.
Selection of participants will be based on originality and quality of the work and extensive involvement of the undergraduate student in the development of the research design and execution of the project.
Accepted participants will be notified by Jan. 12. Sponsoring faculty will be invited to preside at their students sessions, and accepted abstracts will be published in a book of abstracts. Papers submitted by Jan. 26 will be considered for best paper awards in humanities, sciences and social sciences.
The CURO symposium will be free and open to the public, and faculty and students are encouraged to attend.
Application, abstract and faculty letter of support should be sent to Pamela B. Kleiber, Honors Program, 123 Academic Building. For further information, contact CURO@uga.edu, 542-0530.
