State Botanical Garden benefits from Campaign for Charities
University employees can now support a UGA unit--the State Botanical Garden--through their contributions in the Campaign for Charities drive.
The Friends of the State Botanical Garden, the garden’s private fundraising and support group, has joined the Environmental Fund for Georgia, one of the federated charitable organizations to which donations can be earmarked. The EFG is a statewide coalition of 25 organizations that work to protect Georgia’s environment through land preservation, education, pollution prevention and energy conservation. Donations can be designated either for the fund itself, or for one or more of the 25 members, including the Friends of the State Botanical Garden. Money not specifically targeted to one of the 25 organizations is distributed by the fund among all the groups.
Jeff Lewis, director of the State Botanical Garden, says the fund allows employees to add an environmental component to their charitable giving.
“The fund is dedicated to helping organizations like the Friends raise money to protect the environment,” Lewis says. “Being a member helps heighten the visibility of the State Botanical Garden and supports our efforts to safeguard human and environmental health.”
The Environmental Fund for Georgia is agency number 19300 on the list of organizations in the Campaign for Charities brochure, and the Friends of the State Botanical Garden is agency number 19326. Employees wishing to contribute to the Friends should write in one or both of these numbers under “The Choice is Yours” section of the contribution form.
