| SALLY VANDIVER Interim Director International Business Program Terry College of Business TIME IN CURRENT POSITION: A year and a half. JOB DESCRIPTION: I am responsible for managing and expanding the study-abroad programs for the Terry College of Business. I travel to different locations and figure out where our program will work best and help set up all the program details in each city. A TYPICAL DAY FOR ME: Right now I am busy with student advising. I advise students every 20 minutes or so all day long. In between students, I collect curriculum vitae from faculty interested in teaching in several study-abroad programs. I also answer questions over e-mail for the students who are studying abroad. OTHER UGA EXPERIENCE: I previously advised freshmen and sophomores in lower division advising in the Terry College. I have been with the international business program in various capacities for eight and a half years. I also worked at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education advising for the evening class program. MOST REWARDING PART OF MY JOB: Working with students who know what they want to do. A lot of the students I work with are so driven; they know what they want to do, where they want to go and how they want to get there. It is fun watching them set high goals and then actually achieving them. MOST CHALLENGING PART OF MY JOB: Trying to manage all my responsibilities at work and get everything done in an eight-hour day. Not only do I advise the students and manage the study-abroad programs, I also serve as the secretary for this department. I have to work hard at time management. IF I WASNT DOING THIS JOB, ID MOST LIKE TO: Become an artist and spend my time drawing and painting. OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: Any water sport. I love swimming and scuba diving. I also enjoy photography, though I dont think Im very good at it yet. A BOOK THAT ID RECOMMEND TO OTHERS: I really enjoyed The Poisonwood Bible, by Barbara Kingsolver. Its a book about an American missionary and his family who travel down the Congo in 1959. The story is told by his wife and three daughters. AN ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME MOST ABOUT TODAYS WORLD: Were too busy. Its such a fast-paced world right now, which tends to make people rude and insensitive to others. --Tiffany Gray |
