YEARS IN CURRENT POSITION: Four.

JOB DESCRIPTION: “I am responsible for creating and maintaining databases; creating presentations, Web sites, and newsletters; providing support and training of staff and faculty with computer software, computer purchases and helping with computer problems.
“I also work with word processing, database and spreadsheet software to create reports and assist in analysis of data.”

A TYPICAL DAY FOR ME: “I do a little bit of everything. Right now we’re doing classroom and computer lab renovation, so I am overseeing the progress on that. I am also working on a budget database for our business office. I handle any computer problems that people might have in the dean’s office. I work on any special projects the dean may need, and I also am responsible for the creation and management of the employee database for the college. Every day brings me something new and different.”

OTHER UGA EXPERIENCE: “I was a student worker in the dean’s office from 1990 to 1993, and then I was a graduate student worker in a similar job in the same office until 1996. I was on the football team from 1990 until 1992.
“I received my bachelor’s degree from the university in 1993 and my master’s degree in 1999. Both degrees are in geography.”

MOST REWARDING PART OF MY JOB: “Helping people. I like to use my skills to help solve problems for people and make it easier to do their jobs.”

MOST CHALLENGING PART OF MY JOB: “The university schedule is challenging because of the way my job works. I will get several projects that people will want at the same time, and then there are other weeks where nothing is going on.”

IF I WASN’T DOING THIS JOB, I’D MOST LIKE TO: “I would want to be doing computer support or something computer-related.”

OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: “I enjoy playing racquetball, golf and softball. I go to the movies and to Atlanta a lot, and I also like cars, and most any high-tech gadgets.”

A MOVIE I’D RECOMMEND TO OTHERS:
Pay it Forward. It was a really neat movie, and I liked the message it gives to the viewers about doing good deeds.”

THE PERSON I ADMIRE MOST: “My dad because he has taught me a lot about respect.
“I admire the way he interacts with people and the level of commitment he has to his school as a principal and to being a father.
“He has also been very supportive of me my whole life, whether it was playing sports or being there for me; he always had the right answers.”

THE ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME MOST ABOUT TODAY’S WORLD:
“Education and the lack of support that schools and teachers receive from parents and the community.
“Even the school systems seem to be putting all of their money in the wrong places. If they were to concentrate on early education and get the children started on the right foot, we could avoid problems in their future.
“It’s too late to try to fix the problems once they reach middle and high school.”
