Michael Padilla
A new position, UGA’s associate dean for educator partnerships is devoted exclusively to developing partnerships between the university and schools and teachers across the state. Michael Padilla, former interim director of the School of Teacher Education, has been named associate dean for educator partnerships.
As associate dean, Padilla will represent the college on matters of educator preparation with government officials and state agencies; facilitate interdisciplinary connections within the college, across the UGA campus and outside educational entities; and will seek opportunities for and provide leadership of grants and innovative programs involving educator preparation programs.
Padilla served as interim school director of teacher education from Jan. 1, 1999, until July 2000. He was principal investigator for the 5-year Georgia Initiative in Mathematics and Science project funded by a $10 million National Science Foundation grant for statewide systemic initiatives in 1992-97.
He received UGA’s 1998 Walter B. Hill Service Award for distinguished achievement in public service and was named the COE’s 1997 Aderhold Distinguished Professor for excellence in the integration of research, teaching and service. Padilla has twice won the Gustav Ohaus Award for Innovations in Science Teaching from the National Science Teachers Association, in 1985 and 1996.

Denise Glynn

Glynn has previously served as head of the department of elementary education. Since joining UGA’s faculty in 1984, Glynn has been awarded the college’s Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence, as well as the D. Keith Osborn Faculty Senate Award for Teaching Excellence. She has also been recognized as a UGA Honors Day Outstanding Teacher. She was most recently a member of UGA’s Office of Instructional Support and Development’s campuswide Peer Consultation Team, which mentors UGA faculty in the area of teaching.
Glynn is the senior author of Teaching and Learning in the Middle Grades, the leading middle school education textbook. Glynn’s other books and numerous articles are related to her research on the role that reading plays in middle school students’ mathematical problem solving.
