Housing shortage at GSU
The closing of outdated dormitories and a rapidly increasing enrollment have left Georgia Southern University with a shortage of on-campus housing. Only about 19 percent of the school’s 14,300 students live on campus. In the late 1980s, when enrollment was about 7,000, more than 50 percent of the students lived on campus. The housing department has a waiting list of 350 students and has stopped accepting applications.

U. of Michigan signs deal with Nike
The University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and Nike Inc. have reached a new agreement for all the institution’s athletics teams for the next seven years. Between cash payments, university licensed apparel and equipment and uniforms, the contract is expected to be worth $25 million to $28 million. The new contract will bind Nike to comply with a code of conduct approved by the Collegiate Licensing Company. The university belongs to both the Fair Labor Association, an anti-sweatshop coalition of more than 140 universities and some apparel manufacturers, and the Worker Rights Consortium, which includes more than 60 colleges and universities but is opposed by apparel manufacturers.
