Call for volunteers
The Office of Academic Special Programs will conduct the 53rd annual Georgia Science and Engineering Fair April 5–7 in Stegeman Coliseum. The program showcases individual, independent research projects designed by approximately 800 middle and high school students. The participating students represent an intelligent, diverse group of potential college students whom we want to recruit to our campus.
The GSEF program needs faculty, graduate students, and technicians to volunteer to judge the individual projects, prepare exhibits about specific UGA departments, conduct departmental tours, and sponsor awards to category winners. Volunteers are welcome to help in more than one area, but judges are particularly needed.
Those interested in volunteering should contact Mary Lue Walser (542-0453; mwalser@uga.edu). More information is available on the special programs Web site (www.uga.edu/oasp).

Advisor award nominations
During spring semester, the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences will present its annual awards for excellence in academic advising to two advisors, one faculty and one professional-staff. Each will receive a salary increase and a recognition certificate at the Franklin College awards luncheon.
The college invites nominations from Franklin College undergraduate students for the Outstanding Academic Advisor Awards. Any Arts and Sciences professional-staff or faculty advisor involved in the academic advisement of undergraduate students in the Franklin College may be nominated.
Nomination forms are available in 106 New College; hand-written nominations are also acceptable. Nominations should include the nominee’s name, department, designation as faculty or professional-staff advisor, and a list of reasons in support of the nomination. Nominators should submit their names, addresses, and telephone numbers along with the nomination.
A selection committee comprised of lower- and upper-division student representatives will evaluate nominations on the evidence of effective advising qualities and practices.
The deadline for submitting nominations is March 2. Nominations should be sent to Outstanding Academic Advisor Award, Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, 212 New College.
