YEARS IN CURRENT POSITION: “28 1/2. It’s the first and only job I’ve had.”

JOB DESCRIPTION: “In a typical day, I administer all 33 accounts amounting to a total of approximately $1.61 million for the year 2000.
“I keep busy negotiating a lot of the paperwork for modification, processing invoices, purchasing and dealing with account balances. Much of the job involves research work order contracts—I am the liaison between agricultural extension, the University Research Foundation and the U.S. Geological Survey in Washington, D.C.
I must solve any problems with contracts or accounts and get them corrected.”

THE MOST CHALLENGING ASPECT OF MY JOB:
“Contract preparation. It’s so vital and there are so many components to each contract. Each one is an individual challenge to make sure everything is correct.”

THE MOST REWARDING ASPECT OF MY JOB: “Working with the people, staff and students. We have a lot of fun, and I enjoy working with them.”

OFF-THE-JOB INTERESTS: “I like to read, travel and work in the yard with my flowers. I also work in the ministry of Oconee Heights Baptist Church; I teach Sunday School and volunteer with the children’s programs and festivals.”

A BOOK I WOULD RECOMMEND TO OTHERS: “The Savannah trilogy by Eugenia Price. These are exciting novels that make you think about the history of Georgia.”

THE PERSON I ADMIRE MOST: “My mother was a good teacher, instilling into us a great work ethic. She would say, ‘If you can’t do a good job, don’t do it.’ She could take a little and go a long way with it.
“I remember another side to her, sitting on the front porch after the day’s work sharing stories with us. She was an encourager, telling us we could do anything if we wanted. She gave me my love for reading.
“She was a great person and a great influence on my life and the way I raised my children.”

FAVORITE MUSIC: “I love all music except rock; I enjoy country, classical, gospel and the blues, too. I love Reba McIntyre’s songs.”

THE ISSUE THAT CONCERNS ME ABOUT TODAY’S WORLD:
“The environment. I see so much here in our research of how chemicals and pollution can do so much harm.
“We are supposed to be good stewards of the land, but we are greedy. We need to look after and take care of our water and wildlife.”
