Jay Bernhardt, an assistant professor in health promotion and behavior and director of UGAs Public Health Information Technology Laboratory in the College of Education, has received a national award for his work from the American Public Health Association.Sharon Crowell-Davis, professor of anatomy and radiology and adjunct professor of psychology, is president of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, the primary certifying organization for veterinarians specializing in animal behavior service and research. The ACVBs objectives are to advance veterinary behavioral science and increase the competence of those involved in the field. Crowell-Davis was one of the founding members of the organization in 1993 and served as chair of the examining committee for the first three years. Author of more than 130 publications in the field of animal behavior, she is one of 26 diplomates in this emerging specialty, which is gaining in importance since behavior problems are the number one reason for euthanizing several million pet dogs and cats in the United States each year. Charles R.T. OKelley, Martin E. Kilpatrick Professor of Corporate Finance and Securities Law, was elected to membership in the American Law Institute. The institute promotes the clarification and simplification of the law and its better adaptation to social needs to secure the better administration of justice, and to encourage and carry on scholarly and scientific legal work. OKelley was selected in recognition of his impressive record of accomplishments, service and leadership to the law. There are 3,500 elected and life members of the institute. The Georgia Museum of Arts communications department received the Best in Show Award, as well as a gold award, for the brochure accompanying the exhibition His Horne Made: Engraved Powder Horns from the Collection of James E. Routh Jr. at the Southeastern Museums Conference annual meeting. The brochure was designed by David Vinson, a former museum studies intern, and produced by museum editor Jennifer Freeman. Kudos recognizes special contributions staff, faculty and administrators are making in teaching, research and service. News items are limited to election in national and international societies; election into offices of state, regional, national and international societies; major awards and prizes; and similarly notable accomplishments. |
