Toward one goal
In the first such collaboration in the state, the University of Georgia and the Clarke County School District have agreed to work together to improve student learning through the creation of partnership schools.
The new initiative is unique in its comprehensive approach to bringing together the university, local schools and the community for education renewal.
Clarke County's Dream Team
The co-chairs of the design team for the partnership between the university and the Clarke County School District, announced earlier this month are JoBeth Allen and Jenny Oliver of UGAs School of Education and Norma McNair of the Clarke County schools. Columns spoke with the three of them about the project for improving the schools.

Georgia on my line
The state will be the subject of a pioneering effort when the New Georgia Encyclopedia goes online in mid-2002. Though the Encyclopedia is a state project, it has close ties to UGA, and its offices are in Candler Hall on North Campus.
The universitys involvement has been much deeper than just location, according to John Inscoe, professor of history and editor of the project.

hosts Native American database
An electronic collection of historical documents about the Native Americans of the Southeast is now available on the Web via the GALILEO Digital Library of Georgia.
More than 1,000 documents are now accessible. The number will double in late 2001 thanks to a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, which provided funding for the digitization project.
