Administrative changes
Special education professor named director of School of Professional Studies |
|
Cheri Hoy, a professor in special education, has been appointed director of the School of Professional Studies at UGAs College of Education.
Dr. Hoy brings with her outstanding achievements in scholarship, teaching and service. She has served as a faculty administrator in faculty matters in the college for the past several years and is a former department head. Her research and national recognition will contribute to our growing reputation as a premier college of education, said Dean Louis Castenell in announcing the appointment, which becomes effective in July.
Hoy has been on administrative assignment in the deans office for the past two years as faculty administrator. She served as department head of special education from 1989 to 1998 and acting department head for two years prior to that.
Some of my goals for the school include working collaboratively with the faculty and staff to meet the demands of a changing political, social and financial climate; facilitating cross-department and cross-school projects; increasing advisory input from various program constituents; and facilitating communication between the program faculty and administrative offices, Hoy says.
Hoy came to UGA in 1982 from Northwestern where she had received her doctoral degree in communication disorders-learning disabilities. She earned her masters degree in learning disabilities at the University of Illinois and received a bachelors in elementary education at Illinois State University.
Hoys research interests in learning disabilities include assessment, adult issues, social/emotional/behavioral adjustment and mathematics. She is a consistent contributor to the professional literature. Her work also appears in several refereed journals. She has also been actively involved at both the state and national levels in professional organizations.
