UVa law school raises $202 million
The University of Virginia School of Law has raised $202.8 million in a record-setting fund-raising campaign. The money, which is the largest amount ever raised by an American law school, will be used for building renovations, scholarships, construction of a student-faculty center and a new loan-assistance program for graduates interested in public-service careers. School officials said that 70 percent of the law school’s nearly 13,000 alumni participated in the campaign.

ETS to give away GRE prep materials
The Educational Testing Service plans to give free test-preparation materials to students who register to take the Graduate Record Examination beginning in September. Test-takers registered for the computerized GRE general test or the writing assessment test will receive a Powerprep 2.0 CD-ROM valued at $45. Free test-prep materials for subject tests will include a practice test with answer key and test-taking strategies. Although the project will cost the ETS an estimated $1 million a year, officials say it will be worth it if they can raise the scores of minority and low-income students.
