Casimir C. Akoh, professor of food science, has been elected to the American Oil Chemists Society governing board to serve an initial two-year term (2001-2002).
The AOCS is an international society for the science and technology of fats, oils and related materials.
Akoh is currently an associate editor for two of the societys journals: the Journal of the American Oil Chemists Society and INFORM (International News on Fats, Oils and Related Materials).
He also serves as vice-chair of the biotechnology division and serves on many other AOCS committees.
Dorothy Fragaszy, a professor of psychology, is president of the International Primatological Society.
Founded in 1946, the International Primatological Society has as its mission to advance understanding of nonhuman primates through research, to promote humane care and conservation of all species of nonhuman primates, and to advance the publics knowledge about nonhuman primates in the service of their care and conservation. The society has about 1,400 members in about 40 countries. It sponsors a scientific congress every two years. It also sponsors awards for research in conservation and captive-care topics, and serves as the voice of primatology to governments and other groups around the world.
The IPS is a participating member of the International Union of Biological Sciences and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, serving on its Species Survival Commission. Fragaszy was elected to a four-year term as president after serving a four-year term as secretary general in the society.
Psychologists Randall L. Tackett, professor of clinical and administrative services, and William M. Ozburn, senior public service associate in the College of Pharmacy, have received presidential citations from the American Psychological Association. The awards recognize steadfast commitment to the post-doctoral education and training of professional psychologists and neuropsychologists.
Ozburn, director of postgraduate continuing education, was a participating member of the initial collaborative working group in developing a post-doctoral program in the pharmacological and biopsychological domains.
Tackett has worked with innovation and creativity to build a leading-edge curriculum initiative for the continuing education of psychologists.
