Finalists have been chosen for three key administrative positions at the university, and a series of campus visits for the candidates will begin on March 26.
The positions are directors of the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, the J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership and associate provost for international affairs. The Vinson and Fanning institutes are part of UGA’s public service and outreach program, while the international affairs position is part of academic affairs.
The candidates will be on campus to meet with administrators, faculty and staff. Each candidate will also participate in a forum that is open to anyone interested in attending.
Five finalists have been chosen for director of the Vinson Institute. They are Charles (Mike) Swanson, interim director of the institute; Douglas J. Watson, city manager of Auburn, Ala.; Mark L. Weinberg, director of the Voinovich Center for Leadership and Public Affairs at Ohio University; Timothy O’Rourke, executive director of the Citizenship Education Clearing House at the University of Missouri at St. Louis; and Jim Seroka, director of the Center for Governmental Services at Auburn University.
There are four finalists for director of the Fanning Institute. They are Karl Kuhnert, a UGA psychology professor and senior research fellow in the institute; David Mills, director of UGA’s Office of Economic Development Assistance in Warner Robins; Jeffrey Miller, president and senior educator of Innovative Leadership Solutions in Zionsville, Ind.; and Wynn Teasley, executive director of the Whitman Center for Public Service at the University of West Florida.
The first two finalists for associate provost for international affairs have been scheduled for visits. They are Jim Hollifield, director of international studies at Southern Methodist University, and Daniel Nelson, professor of democratization and civil-military relations at the George C. Marshall Center for European Security Studies in Garmisch, Germany. Additional finalists are expected to be scheduled for visits in April.
