Children’s swim program
The School of Health and Human Performance is now accepting registrations for this summer’s children’s swim program. Cost is $55 for nine lessons, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. each weekday in the Ramsey Student Center pool. There are four sessions: June 11-21, June 25-July 6, July 9-19 and July 23-Aug. 3. Each class offers four sections: beginner, intermediate, advanced and competitive swimming.
Children must be at least three years old, and parents of beginners are required to participate as an instructor in the water. For information or registration materials, call 542-5947.

Research subjects
A UGA graduate student is looking for healthy, non-diabetic 55-75-year-old males and females who are not currently involved in a structured exercise program for a research study concerning the effect of one week of strength training on insulin sensitivity. Participants will gain valuable information on their risk for developing diabetes and how strength training can help reduce their risk. Participants will have their blood glucose and insulin measured, learn proper weight-lifting techniques, and learn about the effect of resistance exercise on the effectiveness of the hormone insulin in removing sugar from the blood. For more information, call Kristie Skinner at 583-0223.
