Marking history
Howard B. Stroud, chairman the Union Baptist Institute/Jeruel Preservation Foundation, was one of the speakers during the April 3 ceremony dedicating a state historical marker outside Brumby Hall marking the site of an early school for African Americans in Athens. The ceremony was held inside the Brumby rotunda because of the rainy weather.
A second new historical marker will be dedicated April 11 at 4:30 p.m. outside Baldwin Hall, which served as the headquarters for the U.S. Navy Pre-Flight School that operated on the UGA campus from 1942 to 1945. The dedications are part of UGA’s contribution to the Athens-Clarke County Bicentennial. Photo by Paul Efland
