Magazine ranks UGA grad programs
in law, education, business

UGA's College of Education, School of Law and Terry College of Business are listed among the nation’s top graduate schools in the latest rankings from U.S. News and World Report. The new rankings appear in the 2002 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools” and is available online (www.usnews. com) and at newsstands.
The magazine uses a combination of factors, such as reputation, student selectivity, placement success, faculty resources and research activity, to rank graduate schools.



University will recognize
its top students, teachers at Honors Day

The university’s top student scholars, and some of its best teachers, graduate teaching assistants and faculty mentors and advisers, will be in the spotlight April 11 when UGA holds its annual Honors Day.

Robert Rhoades, a professor of anthropology at UGA, has been elected North American board member for the Mountain Forum, an international group that will help celebrate 2002 as “The International Year of the Mountains.”

Betty Jean Craige is director of the Center for Humanities and Arts and University Professor of Comparative Literature. Her forum is a condensed version of the talk she gave at the President’s Management Conference on Feb. 22.


Media law scholar named
new dean of Grady College


John Soloski, director of the University of Iowa’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication, has been named dean of UGA’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication, pending approval by the board of regents.
Soloski is expected to assume duties as dean in July, and plans to visit Georgia in the interim to meet with faculty, staff and leaders in the state’s media.


Candidates for two positions visit campus, attend open forums

Three finalists for the new position of dean of students will visit campus this month and attend open forums to meet with students, faculty and staff.

Campus visits are scheduled for three additional candidates for the position of associate provost for international affairs. Two other candidates for the position were on campus last month.


Subscription sales under way for Arts Center’s 2001-2002 season

Season subscriptions are now on sale for the UGA Performing Arts Center’s 2001-2002 season, which will include 31 performances in seven series.




Pinball wizard comes to Fine Arts Theatre

Fresh from Broadway, the ’70s rock opera Tommy tells the story of the “Pinball Wizard” and his search for human contact. With UGA’s interactive performance laboratory, the next University Theatre production, directed by the drama department’s Mark Monday, will use the latest computer technology to create a theatrical experience that is part Broadway musical and part rock concert.
Tommy will be presented in the Fine Arts Theatre on April 11-14 and 17-21 at 8 p.m. and April 15 at 2:30 p.m.
