Little succeeds Tripp as director of financial aid
Susan D. Little, who has been associate director of student financial aid at UGA since 1990, has been chosen to become the new director.
Little will succeed Ray Tripp, who is retiring after almost 22 years as director. Her appointment is effective July 1 pending regents’ approval.
Little will oversee an office that, in the past academic year, administered some $141 million in grants, scholarships, loans and work programs to more than 22,420 UGA students, or about 72.5 percent of the student body.
The awards included $41.8 million in HOPE Scholarships. The office also administers federal Pell Grants and Supplemental Grants, federal direct loans, Perkins and other loans, Regents Opportunity Scholarships, federal work-study programs and aid for study-abroad programs.
As associate director, Little has been responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating 25 of the financial aid office’s 40 staff members. She also prepared training materials for staff; helped improve financial aid computer systems; ensured that all the office’s printed materials complied with federal, state and institutional guidelines; and helped students with problems on applications for assistance.
Before joining UGA, Little had been financial aid director at Agnes Scott College since 1981. She holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Agnes Scott and a master’s degree in higher education administration from Georgia State University.
