Beginning Aug. 13, Campus Transit will offer bus service on days when the university is open but classes are not in session.
Campus Transit Manager Ron Hamlin says the primary reason for the change was to extend service to students remaining on campus when classes are not being held, including the large numbers of students enrolling in May-term classes. The non-class-day service will operate on abbreviated routes from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Campus Transit has also altered four daily bus routes to accommodate the construction of the D.W. Brooks pedestrian mall. The new routes will begin Aug. 16, the first day of classes for fall semester. The affected routes are North-South, East-West, South Campus Loop and Family Housing.
Hamlin says the minor but permanent changes may take some adjustment by students. We made changes with them in mind, he says. New transportation maps are printed and ready to go for fall semester.
D.W. Brooks Drive is being converted into greenspace. It will include wide sidewalks, open grassy areas, fountains, trees, an amphitheater and a series of terraces from Connor Hall to the Miller Plant Sciences Building.
In numbers of riders, the universitys Campus Transit is the largest on any college campus in the nation. During the school year, it is second in the state of Georgia only to Atlantas MARTA in the number of passengers. |
