single tickets for the 2001–2002 season. Tickets will go on sale to the general public starting Aug. 27.
The upcoming season features some of the finest music and dance from around the world, including the BBC Concert Orchestra of London, the Boys Choir of Harlem, Russia’s Grigorovich Ballet in Swan Lake, the Bayanihan Philippine National Dance Company, and the gold medal winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is back with new music director Robert Spano and the San Francisco Western Opera Theater returns with a concert version of Mozart’s Cosí fan tutte. The season opens on September 21 with an Athens native: famed 12-string guitarist Leo Kottke.
The center offers six subscription series: Music Series I, Music Series II, Showtime, Traditions, a Dance Festival and the Ramsey Concert Hall Series. Season subscriptions have been on sale since April and are still available at savings of up to 26 percent off single-ticket prices. The center anticipates another record-breaking year, with at least two series projected to set records for season subscription sales.
Many of the Performing Arts Center’s concerts are recorded for broadcast on National Public Radio’s Performance Today, the most popular classical music program on public radio, with 1.5 million listeners around the country.
For ticket information, call the Performing Arts Center box office at 542-4400. The box office is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and is located at 230 River Road in the Performing and Visual Arts Complex.
