Position announcement
Applications are now being accepted for associate provost for institutional effectiveness, a new position combining certain functions of the vice president for strategic planning with ongoing reporting and assessment responsibilities associated with reaccreditation.
The associate provost will keep UGAs strategic plan on track and up-to-date, serve as the accreditation liaison officer to the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, coordinate with the various administrative units responsible for assessment, work with the senior administration to assure that planning and assessment are taken into account in administration decisions, supervise Institutional Research and Planning, serve as the academic affairs liaison with regional colleges and universities, and coordinate precollegiate programs on campus.
The position will report directly to the senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.
The successful candidate will have broad knowledge about UGA and the current challenges and opportunities, experience in strategic planning, understanding of the university governance process, ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the university community, status as a tenured faculty member with significant administrative experience, and organizational skills.
The new associate provost will be selected and begin during fall semester 2001. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

British Studies program
Faculty who are interested in establishing a British Studies program at the university are invited to an organizational meeting on Aug. 24, 4-5 p.m., in 149 Park Hall. For further information, call or write Fran Teague (542-2192; fteague@uga.edu).
Fall fitness programs
Registration is now open for fall fitness and wellness programs at the Ramsey Student Center. Program offerings include pilates, yoga, aerobic classes of varying activities and intensity levels, tai chi, tae kwon do, boxing, ballroom dance, Latin dancing, and salsa dancing. More information, including a schedule of fees and course offerings, is available at Ramsey or on the Web (www.uga.edu/recsports).
Registration is available Mondays through Fridays, 9 a.m.-6 p.m., at the cashiers window in the Ramsey Student Center. For more information call 542-5060.
WebCT workshops
The Office of Instructional Support and Development and University Computing and Networking Services are offering a series of WebCT workshops for faculty, teaching assistants and staff who want to learn to use this Web-based course management system.

(https://webct.uga.edu/hostsys/training/). Links to the workshop schedule, registration forms and workshop agendas are available from this page. All of these workshops are given in 275 journalism building. They are free of charge, but registration is required.

Childrens chorus
The Georgia Childrens Chorus is now holding interviews for the 2001-2002 season. Boys and girls ages 7-16 are encouraged to come sing with the chorus, now in its fourth year in residence at UGA.
The program offers training, performances and concert tours for young singers. The GCC Concert Choir is scheduled to tour to Canterbury and London, England, in 2002.
Rehearsals are held at the School of Music on East Campus. Tuition is required, and financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Call Elizabeth Kimble at 542-8711 for an interview appointment.
Employment fair
The deadline is Aug. 22 for campus units seeking part-time student employees to register to participate in the Campus Employment Fair sponsored by the Career Center on Aug. 29 at the Tate Student Center. The registration fee of $25 per unit is refundable for units which attend and participate in the fair. For further information, contact Ronnie Swoopes, 542-8829, rswoopes@uga.edu.
UGACard office hours
University IDs are made at the UGACard office in the Tate Student Center. Cost is $7; affinity cards are $10. Photo identification must be provided. Employees and dependents must be included in the appropriate database before the card can be made; students must complete OASIS registration first. Cards for dependents require submission of a request form at least five working days in advance. The office is regularly open weekdays, 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. It will be open 9-11 a.m. on Sept. 1.
