Research Experience for Undergraduates The physics and astronomy department offered research assistantships this past summer as part of the National Science Foundations Research Experience for Undergraduates Program. The REU program provided undergraduates who are considering a career in science the opportunity to engage in research with professional physicists and astronomers working on cutting-edge problems in physics. The REU students were full-time research assistants to a faculty mentor and worked on specific aspects of an ongoing research program. Physicists and astronomers at UGA conduct research on a wide range of interdisciplinary areas, including computational physics, biophysics, atmospheric physics, astrophysics, nuclear physics, chemical physics, condensed matter physics and genomics.
