New director appointed to International Public Service and Outreach

Glenn C. W. Ames has been appointed the new director of the Office of International Public Service and Outreach. The appointment became effective Sept. 15.
A unit under the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach, IPSO aims to further the internationalization of UGA by developing applied research projects, technology assistance, training and capacity-building programs. The office identifies funding opportunities for faculty, staff and students to participate in international collaborative research, technology transfer and exchange programs and works across disciplines to serve as a resource to academic and public service units throughout the university.
Ames has been awarded many external contracts and grants supporting research, project development and exchange programs in developing countries, such as the Dominican Republic, the Congo (formerly Zaire), Burkina Faso, the Republic of Georgia, Russia and Tajikistan. Ames has contributed to UGA’s study-abroad programs, co-teaching a course on international marketing and management with a focus on Mexico. He is also the co-director of UGA’s College and University Affiliation Program with the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and a founding member of the Global Policy Studies Certificate Program.
“Dr. Ames exhibits a tireless devotion to international outreach,” says Art Dunning, vice president for public service and outreach and associate provost. “His extensive experience and expertise in the international arena makes him ideal for the position.”
Ames joined the UGA faculty in 1973 after receiving a doctorate from the University of Tennessee and an M.A. from Northern Illinois University.
