GORP activities
The Georgia Outdoor Recreation Program is now accepting registrations for a wide variety of classes and trips during the year--sailing, fly fishing and tying, kayak paddling, hiking trips, river trips, SCUBA, rockclimbing, backpacking, canoeing, horseback trips, whitewater rafting, hang gliding, skiing and caving. Faculty, staff and students can participate; openings are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Cost varies with type of activity; credit-card payments are accepted for trips costing more than $10. No refunds are available. The Outdoor Rec Center provides discounted equipment rental to trip participants.
Fact sheets with detailed information for all trips are available at the cashiers window at the Ramsey Student Center and at the Outdoor Rec Center, room 144 in the Ramsey Center. Sign-ups are taken Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, call 542-5060.
Sweet Pea Club
The State Botanical Garden is now accepting registrations for this falls Sweet Pea Club, open to children ages three to five and their parent-helpers. Sessions are scheduled for Fridays, Oct. 12-Nov. 16, 9-10:15 a.m. Cost is $36 ($32 members) for parent and child for all six sessions and $14 ($12 members) for a second child.
Each session focuses on a different topic. Programs involve puppet shows, storytelling, indoor and outdoor activities, nature crafts and garden walks (weather permitting).

Admissions seeks interns
The undergraduate admissions office seeks upperclass UGA students for a paid professional in-office internship position to help recruit and assist prospective students during the application process. Interns conduct information sessions, assist visitors and answer phone calls; excellent communication skills are required. Applicants should submit a résumé and cover letter to Melinda De Maria, 212 Terrell Hall (mdemaria@admissions.uga.edu).
Study-abroad conference
The seventh annual University System of Georgia Study-Abroad Conference will take place on Oct. 18, 8:30 a.m.-3:45 p.m., at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The conference will cover such topics as creating and managing study abroad and exchange programs, marketing study abroad programs, financial aid and scholarship issues, health, safety and liability considerations and cross-cultural learning.
