School of Music names new director
Donald R. Lowe, professor of music, has been named director of the School of Music. Prior to his July 1 appointment, Lowe was the associate dean of the Graduate School, associate director of the School of Music, and coordinator of graduate studies in music.
I am very pleased that Don Lowe will be leading the School of Music as our programs in all areas of music continue to grow and prosper, says Wyatt Anderson, dean of the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. Don is a leader who has both a vision for the school and an ability to solve day-to-day problems. I look forward to working closely with him.
Lowes principal teaching areas are music education, music literature, and conducting; the focus of his scholarly work is historical. He is a member of the graduate faculty and includes among his publications articles in the Journal of Research in Music Education and the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians.
Lowe currently serves on the editorial board of the Southeastern Journal of Research in Music Education. He holds degrees from Wichita State University and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
