Pat Bell-Scott, professor of child and family development in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and Womens Studies, has been named a Fellow by the National Council of Family Relations.
Bell-Scott is widely known for her work on African-American women in family context. She was a founding editor of Sage, the only scholarly journal exclusively focused on African-American women, and she is the author of three books on African-American women.
Within NCFR, Bell-Scott is a co-founder of the Black Caucus, now called the Ethnic Minorities Section.

James Don Edwards, the Tull Professor of Accounting Emeritus who retired from UGA in 1998 as interim dean of the Terry College of Business, has been inducted into the Accounting Hall of Fame.
The Accounting Hall of Fame was established in 1950 at Ohio State Universitys Fisher College of Business and has since honored only 69 influential and respected accountants from academe, accounting practice, government and business. The halls international board of electors selects the honorees.
Edwardss portrait and citation will be displayed at the Hall of Fame on the campus of Ohio State University. Edwards is only the 29th academician in 52 years to be elected to the Accounting Hall of Fame.
L. Mark Risse, associate professor of biological and agricultural engineering, received the 2001 Nolan Mitchell Young Extension Worker Award from the American Society of Agricultural Engineers.
Named after crop-drying pioneer Nolan Mitchell, the award recognizes outstanding success in motivating people to acquire knowledge, skills, and understanding to improve agricultural operations.

This award is one of four engineering achievement awards given annually to honor American Society of Agricultural Engineers members younger than 40 who have made unique contributions to the agricultural engineering profession.
The UGA Interlibrary Loan Department received the 2001 GOLD Interlibrary Loan Library of the Year Award at the GOLD/GALILEO Users Meeting. The award is given in recognition of service excellence and commitment to resource sharing.
Award recipients are voted on by members of GOLD (Georgia Online Database), the statewide organization of approximately 200 libraries of all types.
This past year UGAs ILL lending staff supplied more than 12,500 books and copies to libraries throughout the state of Georgia.
In fiscal year 2001, the UGA Interlibrary Loan Department processed approximately 65,000 requests from other libraries and more than 13,000 requests from UGA users. The department supplied material to and borrowed from every state in the union and many foreign countries.
Kudos recognizes special contributions of staff, faculty and administrators in teaching, research and service. News items are limited to election into office of state, regional, national and international societies; major awards and prizes; and similarly notable accomplishments. |
