Juergen Wiegel, professor of microbiology, was recognized for his research on bacteria by having the bacterium Thermoanaerobacter wiegli named in his honor.

Sidney Thompson, professor of biological and agricultural engineering, has been installed for the second year as section secretary for the Georgia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.
