plan, has assumed the new post of associate provost for institutional effectiveness, reporting directly to Provost Karen Holbrook.
In this position, Boehmer is responsible for keeping the universitys strategic plan on track and up-to-date, while coordinating ongoing reporting and assessment responsibilities. In addition, he serves as the senior academic liaison to the Gwinnett University Center, a unique partnership between the University of Georgia, Georgia Perimeter College and the University System of Georgia.
The two-year self-study, which focused on ways to strengthen undergraduate education, was a comprehensive, campus-wide effort undertaken as part of the reaccreditation process the university undergoes every 10 years. The results were presented last February to a review team from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, which commended the university as a student-centered institution.
Dr. Boehmers background in working with SACS makes him a natural for this position, says Holbrook. He not only knows the accreditation process, but he had an opportunity to connect with so many different people across the institution, who hold him in the highest regard.
Boehmer came to the university in 1989 as a faculty member in legal studies in the Terry College of Business. He has won numerous teaching awards, including being selected as one of three annual recipients of the Richard B. Russell Undergraduate Teaching Award. He has served as co-director of the Lilly Teaching Fellows Program since 1996 and has been active on University Council, where he worked on revising the universitys academic honesty policy.
He holds a doctor of jurisprudence degree from the University of Oregon and before coming to UGA was a partner in a law firm in Eugene, Ore.
