Network certification training
Enterprise Information Technology Services and the Training and Development Department have again collaborated with WaveThompson Learning to provide network training bootcamps in Athens at the Training and Development Center.
Training and testing for MCSE, CNE and CCNA is open to all qualified University System of Georgia employees. The certification training process will take approximately 6-8 weeks. It includes directed self-study (online and books); mentoring (campus mentoring by certified UGA staff and technical mentoring by experts from WaveThompson); bootcamps (intense classroom instruction, one to three weeks); and onsite testing during the bootcamps.
Details--qualifications, dates, times, costs and course descriptions--are available on the Web (www.busfin.uga.edu/staff/cert_training.pdf).
Space is limited and the registration deadline for the first bootcamp is March 4. Contact Training and Development at 542-7062 or e-mail training@uga.edu.

National Public Radio reception
WUGA-FM 91.7/97.9 will host a reception and dinner with Lisa Simeone, host of National Public Radio’s Weekend All Things Considered, on March 6 in the Grand Ballroom of the Georgian in downtown Athens. The evening will begin with a reception and cash bar at 6 p.m., followed by a dinner catered by Trumps Catering at 7 p.m. There will be an after-dinner address by Simeone and a question-and-answer period.
Tickets are $25 per person and are available by calling WUGA at 542-9842. The deadline to purchase tickets is March 1.

Transportation survey coming
Athens Transit System, in cooperation with the university, is conducting a survey of UGA faculty and staff. Athens Transit hopes to learn what service factors can be changed to increase ridership, improve air quality, and reduce traffic congestion. Similar studies have been conducted in other university communities, such as Eugene, Ore., and Gainesville, Fla. Improved bike and pedestrian travel, commuter pass programs, and carpools resulted from those studies.
Surveys are being mailed to all full-time faculty and staff through campus mail. Completed surveys can be returned by campus mail to parking services or by regular mail to Judy Dudley, 325 Pound Street, Athens GA 30601. Employees also can log on to the Athens Transit Web site (www.athenstransit.com) and print out a survey to complete manually; surveys cannot be completed online.
The survey is a part of Athens Transit’s “It’s For You, Too” campaign, designed to educate the Athens community about the benefits of public transportation both for individuals and for the community.
For information about the survey or the results, contact Judy Dudley, Athens Transit, 613-3437, extension 24, or jdudley@co.clarke.ga.us.

Pregnancy study participants
Women in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and between the ages of 18 and 40 are needed for a study in the department of exercise science aimed at better understanding the changes in physical activity and back function that occur during pregnancy. Participants can receive gift certificates up to $50. For more information, call Melanie at 542-4138.
