Scientists use many methods to determine the status of wildlife populations.
In Analysis and Management of Animal Populations, due to be released next month, the authors integrate population modeling, parameter estimation and decision-theoretic approaches to management by emphasizing the role of mathematical modeling.
Co-written by Michael Conroy, assistant leader in the Georgia Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Unit and adjunct professor of wildlife in UGAs Warnell School of Forest Resources, the book includes four major sections that review these methods and their applications in science-based conservation.
The first section provides a methodological framework for quantifying and modeling field observations. The next section is a framework for dynamic modeling of populations, with examples from familiar organisms and ecosystems. The third section addresses the estimation of population attributes with sampling data. The fourth section explains decision analysis and optimal management of populations. |
