Auburn dismisses officer
A police supervisor at Auburn University in Montgomery has been fired amid charges of racist behavior. The officer also has been charged with attempting to recruit a fellow officer into the Ku Klux Klan. The fellow officer was given a compact disc of music with lyrics that advocated white supremacy and violence against anyone non-white. A complaint was filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which sparked a university investigation. This investigation led to the officers dismissal.
New higher ed association created
The National Conference on Law and Higher Education has created a new association to foster discussion among legal experts, administrators, faculty members and others about issues concerning higher education. The goal of the Association for Interdisciplinary Initiatives in Higher Education Law and Policy is to bring experts together to look at legal and policy concerns of institutions of higher education. The associations first conference this summer will focus on suicide and self-inflicted injury.
