College Board considers SAT changes
The College Board has announced plans to make wide-ranging changes to the format and content of the SAT. The changes may include a new writing section and more advanced math, as well as eliminating the analogies section of the test. Any changes made to the test would not take effect until 2006. The goal of the proposed changes is to make the content of the test a more accurate measure of what is being taught in high school classrooms.
Bowling Green cuts mens sports teams
To save money, Bowling Green State University is discontinuing its mens swimming, tennis and track-and-field teams at the end of this academic year. It is the fifth Division I school this year to make major cuts in mens non-revenue sports.
Bowling Green has the largest number of varsity sports--currently 22--and one of the smallest budgets of the Mid-American Conference. The school says gender equity was not a factor in its decision to drop the mens teams. Eastern Washington, Portland State, Tulane and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst all have recently announced plans to drop mens athletic teams.
