Towson U. president resigns
The president of Towson University, Mark Perkins, resigned under pressure after leaders of Marylands higher-education system investigated cost overruns that stemmed from the renovation of the presidents state-owned home.
Three members of the regents of the University System of Maryland told Perkins that he would be fired if he did not resign. Perkins argued that the improvements were necessary for the health of his family and to make the home suitable to entertain prospective donors.
Hispanic woman to lead UC Riverside
The University of California has named France A. Cordova as its first female Hispanic chancellor. Cordova will head the Riverside campus following a campaign to name a Hispanic to the post.
Cordova succeeds Raymond Orbach, who resigned this year. Cordova says that her top priorities will be managing U.C. Riversides growth, raising private funds and finding ways to get more people prepared for higher education, with a focus on underrepresented minorities.
