UGA seniors a send-off at the universitys spring commencement May 11.
Gramm, a leading Senate authority on fiscal and defense matters and a 1996 presidential candidate, will be the featured speaker at exercises for undergraduate and professional students at 9:30 a.m. in Sanford Stadium. He will be introduced by Miller, his close friend and frequent ally on Senate legislation.
In case of rain, the ceremony will be in Stegeman Coliseum and will be split into two sessions, at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. A decision to move will be made by 7 a.m. and announced on Athens radio stations and the UGA Today Web site (www.uga.edu/news).
Commencement for students receiving graduate degrees will be at 2:30 p.m. in Stegeman Coliseum. Edward Larson, UGA historian and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for history, will be the speaker.
The May ceremonies are for students who complete degree requirements at the end of spring semester. Registrar Gary Moore estimates that about 3,100 undergraduates and between 700 and 800 graduate students will be eligible to participate in commencement. The exact number of eligible degree recipients wont be known until final exams are over just prior to the ceremonies.
Gramm, who was born in Ft. Benning, received a bachelors degree in economics from UGA in 1965 and a doctorate in economics in 1967. Miller, a native of Young Harris, earned bachelors and

masters degrees in history from UGA in 1957 and 1958.
President Adams says the university is honored to have both senators participate in commencement.
With their deep personal ties to the University of Georgia, and their outstanding records of service to our nation and state, senators Gramm and Miller are two of our most distinguished graduates, Adams says. They have been extremely helpful in obtaining federal assistance for some of the universitys major academic initiatives and in supporting our interests in Washington. I cant think of two finer or more appropriate speakers to provide words of inspiration to our graduates.
Sharing the podium as a speaker at the undergraduate ceremony will be Tina Rakkhit of Matthews, N.C., a graduating senior who will speak as the student representative of the Class of 2002. Rakkhit, who will receive bachelors degrees in German and microbiology, is a Foundation Fellow, Honors Program participant and recipient of numerous academic honors. She was a state finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship and has worked and studied in Germany, Switzerland, India and Australia.
Thirty-six seniors who have maintained perfect 4.0 grade point averages will be recognized as First Honor Graduates.
