Symposium will consider globalization in the South
Scholars from numerous universities will come to Athens June 21-22 to participate in The South and Globalization, a symposium that will focus on aspects of the American Souths response to and role in globalization.
Over the past half century, many scholars have asked about the integration of the South into the mainstream of American life. The meeting in Athens, which is open to the public, will examine the Souths place in a rapidly expanding global economy and culture.
There is a registration-processing fee of $10, payable in advance until June 15; after June 15, the fee is $25. A registration form may be downloaded at www.uga.edu/history, and forms and fees should be mailed to Symposium 2002, History Department, LeConte Hall.
The symposium will begin at 8 p.m. on June 21 at the Georgia Center with a keynote address by James Cobb, B. Phinizy Spalding Distinguished Professor of History at UGA.
For more information, call William Stueck at 542-2506.
