Children’s chorus interviews
The Georgia Children’s Chorus, in residence at the university, is holding interviews for the 2002-03 season. Boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 16 are eligible. All that is needed is a pleasant voice and the desire to perform.
The GCC regularly performs on campus and in the community--holiday and spring concerts at the Performing Arts Center, the national anthem at UGA gymnastics meets and men’s basketball games and other community events. The GCC plans a concert tour to Florida for summer 2003.
No experience is necessary. Call 542-8711 for more information or to schedule a brief interview.

Passport and photo services
The Student Activities business office/UGACard office now offers photographic services for passports, immigration ID cards, professional exams and résumés, and international student IDs. The service was formerly offered at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. The UGACard office is located on the third floor of the Tate Student Center and is open weekdays 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $8 for a set of two color photographs. Additional sets of the same person taken at the same time will be $6 per set. For more information, call 542-8074.

Park-and-ride locations
Athens Transit has designated park-and-ride locations at area shopping centers to help UGA employees minimize traffic and parking problems. Parking spaces are being marked and boarding signs installed at each lot.
There are four designated locations:
• Bi-Lo Shopping Center on North Avenue, served by Routes 1 and 24. Both routes provide service to College Avenue downtown, two blocks from the Arch. Free transfers are available on buses going through campus on Routes 5, 9, 25 or 26.
• Super WalMart on Lexington Road, served by Routes 25, 26 and 27. Route 25 serves campus from Carlton Street to the Georgia Center and Sanford Drive to Baldwin-Lumpkin to downtown; Route 26 serves Williams Street, Hooper, Baldwin Street and downtown; Route 27 serves Williams Street, the main library and downtown.
• Shops of South Athens at Macon Highway and South Milledge, served by Routes 9 and 14. Route 9 serves Five Points, Sanford Drive at the Georgia Center to Memorial Hall, the main library on Jackson and downtown; Route 14 covers East Campus Drive, Carlton Street, the Georgia Center, Sanford Drive, Hooper and the main library.
• Kroger on West Broad, served by Routes 6, 6A and 20. Route 6 goes to the Arch; Route 6A goes downtown two blocks from the Arch; Route 20 serves Baxter Street, Lumpkin to Cedar Street, Memorial Hall on Sanford Drive to Baldwin, and Lumpkin Street to downtown.
All selected lots have bus service at a minimum of 30-minute intervals and some lots are served every 15 to 20 minutes.
This is a pilot project to determine if new customers will use park-and-ride locations and ride the regular bus routes to campus.
An agreement signed this July between Athens-Clarke County and UGA allows faculty and employees to ride by showing ID cards, with UGA paying for the passenger trips. A similar contract for UGA students has been in place since 1977. A survey of UGA employees last winter indicated that 40 percent are likely or somewhat likely to ride the bus if more frequent bus service and shorter trip times are available. The biggest concern about the bus was reported to be commute time; employees reported an average commute by car of 15-30 minutes. More than 56 percent of the respondents indicated their mode of transportation to work was dictated by a need for their car before, during or after work for errands, and park-and-ride can help solve that problem. Athens Transit saw a significant change in student ridership last school year with 391,000 student passenger trips. UGA passenger counts for July, following the new agreement, showed a 45 percent increase in UGA ridership over last July.
Bus service times to these park-and-ride locations and other bus stops are listed on the Athens Transit Web site, www.athenstransit.com. Timetables are also available on buses, at the transfer/information center at Washington Street and College Avenue, and at the office at 325 Pound Street. Bus information is also available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by calling 613-3430.

BFSO reception
Members of the university community are invited to a reception welcoming new black faculty and staff to campus. Sponsored by the Office of the President and the Black Faculty and Staff Organization, the reception is Aug. 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Dean Rusk Hall of the law school. If you plan to attend the reception, RSVP by Aug. 23 to Melanie Andrews at 542-0006 or mandrews@uga.edu.

Study subjects sought
UGA’s McPhaul Center is looking for mothers and their first-born children, age 10 to 12 months, for a study on mother-infant interaction. Participants will come to the McPhaul Center for two visits, about one hour each, in which they will play with their children in different episodes. For each visit, participants will receive $15, and at the end of the study they will receive a videotape of their children’s participation in the study. The project will continue until August 2003. For more information, contact Alison Hoeh at 583-0031.

Bulletin board is limited to announcements from campus-based organizations whose membership includes UGA faculty and/or staff.
