Laziness, unhealthy behavior linked
Several studies presented at the recent meeting of the American Psychological Association show a link between college students procrastination and unhealthy behaviors in sleep, exercise patterns and diet. Researchers hope the new findings will help counselors deal with procrastinators.
According to a study of 374 undergraduate students at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, procrastination is linked to the tendency to neglect rather than confront problems that cause anxiety. Procrastinators also showed higher rates of drinking, smoking and putting off visits to the doctor.
Students admission revoked
The Wentworth Institute of Technology revoked a students admission after school officials learned he had been charged with rape and other sex offenses. A Massachusetts judge had ruled the student could reside in a dorm room until his trial begins.
University officials did not learn of the prospective students indictment until a local reporter called to ask about it. University policy allows officials to revoke admission if they feel a student lacks respect for others.
