an associate professor in UGAs School of Social Work, will serve in the new position of assistant vice president in academic affairs for UGA at Gwinnett. Her appointment was effective Sept. 3.
Dozier joined the UGA faculty in 1994 and for the past year has been a co-director of the part-time masters in social work program offered by UGA at Gwinnett. She has taught graduate courses in substance abuse, social work practice methods, cultural diversity and supervision in the School of Social Work, and has been an adviser for masters and doctoral students.
In addition to her administrative and teaching responsibilities, Dozier has conducted substance abuse research with faculty in UGAs Institute for Behavioral Research and with local and national substance abuse agencies. She also has been involved in international research and study-abroad programs in Ghana and Veracruz. She is an affiliated faculty member with UGAs African Studies Institute and has served as coordinator of the School of Social Works annual conference on African-American families.
Dozier has helped develop undergraduate courses for UGA at Gwinnett, including electives to complement the three new undergraduate degree programs being offered this fall by UGAs College of Education, Terry College of Business and Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.
Cheryl Dozier will do an excellent job handling day-to-day coordination of UGA academic programs offered in Gwinnett and helping develop new programs, says Bob Boehmer, UGAs associate provost for institutional effectiveness and the person to whom Dozier will report.
Dr. Dozier brings a unique combination of skills to this important role. She is highly accomplished as a teacher, a researcher and an administrator and understands the needs of the Gwinnett University Center and the community.
Dozier holds a bachelors degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University, a masters in social work from Atlanta Universitys School of Social Work and a doctoral degree from Hunter Colleges School of Social Welfare. She is currently vice president of the National Association of Black Social Workers.
